Retrospective of Landscape Artist in
Syracuse, NY
Daltons American Decorative Arts has
compiled a collection of paintings and etchings by famous desert landscape artist Albert
Lorey Groll.

Places - features 24 paintings and etchings of the premier landscape artist in America
during the early 1900s.
Dalton s has brought Grolls
paintings and etchings to central New York for the public to experience the landscapes
first-hand.
The exhibit gives the visitors of
the gallery the opportunity to examine a diverse collection, as the exhibit includes not
only Grolls landscapes of the desert, it also features scenes from New England, and the
dunes of Cape Cod.
On Friday, November 16, an opening
reception will be held by gallery director David Rudd from 6 to 9 p.m. at the gallery,
located at 1931 James Street.
The
artwork will be on display and for sale in both the gallery and on Dalton s website
through February 18, 2002.
A native of New York City, Albert L.
Groll (1866-1952) transformed his love for the characteristic Eastern Coast and the
tranquil, unadorned Western landscapes into an extensive collection of paintings and
etchings that captured natures quiet moments.
Grolls appreciation for the subtle
scenes in nature and his talent for the apprehension of the contours of the land and the
spectacular cloud formations have secured him a place in Western art history.
Although Groll s career is
practically defined by his desert landscape paintings, his beginnings were not that of a
landscape painter at all. He began his art career as an illustrator and cartoonist, but
his profound love for the beauty of nature and his trip to the Arizona and New Mexico
desert would reveal a prolific landscape artist. Grolls
work has been recognized by numerous medals and awards to include the National Academy of
Design Gold Medal in 1911 and the Silver Medal of the San Francisco Exposition in 1915. Grolls work is displayed in over 20 museums around
the country including the Phoenix Art Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the
Metropolitan Museum of Art.
